Page history last edited by Paula Samal 5 years, 7 months ago

Augustus Caesar was a Roman emperor (63 BCE – 14 CE).  He ruled with absolute power. He was related to Julius Caesar.  Augustus was born Octavian and got the title Augustus upon becoming emperor.  When he came to power, there was threat to his ascension to the throne by Cleopatra, the Ptolemaic emperor of Egypt, and Marc Anthony, a former general in the army of Julius Caesar.  As Augustus' army descended on the couple, the commit suicide by snake (Asps).

After securing the throne, there is less dissent to Caesar's rule.  His reign is the official beginning of the empire and the death of the Roman Republic.

He centralized the government where his governors reported directly to him.  The economy of Rome becomes managed by the emperors advisers.

Following Augustus, Rome has 200 years of peace called the Pax Romana.
