Communism started in the 1800s from philosopher/economist Karl Marx. It began as a response to the Industrial Revolution. During WWI, the Soviet Union became the first communist state. Then following WWII, several other communist states developed. With the fall of communism in Eastern Europe, communist governments fell all over the world. As of 2020, the major communist states are China, Cuba and North Korea
